SPARC Committee Meeting Minutes - October 2001

October 11, 2001

Attendees:

Steve Alexander (Circuit City), Jay Campbell (GE Financial), Joe McFadden (SUN), Wayne Diehl (SUN)

Purpose:

Monthly SPARC committee Meeting

Summary of decisions, discussions, and action items:

1. The general consensus from the online and general meeting surveys indicate that the current time is acceptable to most members. Meetings will continue from 4:00 - 6:00 each month.

2. The email list needs to be reviewed and updated contact information and new contacts need to be added. Joe and Wayne will review contacts at current customer sites for additions.

3. Jay will post the October meeting slides on security from James River Technical on the web site (www.richmondsparc.org). He will post them in both Star Office and PowerPoint formats.

4. The November meeting will be sponsored by Strategic Technologies and the topic will be server consolidation. Joe will follow up with Steve and Lee from Strategic Technologies to provide a brief biography of the speaker for use in the reminder emails. Jay suggested that information on the Sun Fire 15K be presented as applicable in server consolidation.

5. The normal meeting date for November is 11/01. So meetings can be spaced out better, it was determined that November's meeting will be moved to the second Thursday, 11/08. Due to the holidays and year end activities, January's meeting is also moved to the second Thursday, 01/10/2002. Jay will adjust the room reservations.

7. Wayne will compose a short promotion email that will point out the new date of the November meeting, and to encourage members to bring non-members to the next meeting. The email will also have the schedule for the next few meetings. Wayne will send that to Steve and Jay for review by Friday for distribution next week.

8. Joe and Wayne will discuss internally if they can sponsor a holiday theme meeting for December in the SUN office in Innsbrook.

9. Our preferred topic for the January meeting will be a discussion from SUN surrounding the SUN "Vision" for the future. We need to find a sponsor for this meeting. Another topic of interest is managing OS upgrades. Joe and Wayne will approach vendors for both presentation and sponsorship.

10. Wayne and Joe will approach several key companies for steering committee membership including Capital One and Dominion Virginia Power.

11. Jay will post these minutes on the web site.

Regards,
Steve
