APRIL TOPIC: Security Architecture and ROI

One of the issues with system and network security is how can you quantify the results of your investment. Too often management looks only at how much was spent and wants and immediate bottom-line answer on how much protection they bought. Unfortunately, the answer is not always easy to come up with.

Vic Winkler, Principal Architect for Sun Microsystems, will review the issue of a return on investment on security and what types of issues need to be factored into the equation in order to determine true costs, benefits and hidden dangers. Vic has over 20 years of experience in Information Security (INFOSEC), information systems design, operations, implementation, and testing. He is a published researcher in INFOSEC, and an expert in intrusion/anomaly detection in complex systems. Currently, Vic is responsible for information security support and expertise throughout the Public Sector Area for US DoD, Federal, Homeland Security, and State and Local. He frequently serves as the Sun representative for industry groups or Government/Industry Committees.

GE Financial Assurance is located on West Broad Street in the Brookfield Office Park. After turning at the light on Broad Street and entering the Brookfield Complex, you should stay in the left lane and turn left at the stop sign. Follow the road around past the Richmond Sheraton to the 6630 building towards the back of the campus. Turn left for Visitor Parking. Additional parking is located on the far side of the building as well. Please enter at the front main entrance.
